About
Established in 1945 by the Thompsons family, Thompsons Tools has been faithfully serving Orlando and the surrounding area for generations, be it Winter Garden, Winter Springs, Winter Park, or Winter Haven.
One of the proudest moments in Thompsons Tools history was on October 1st, 1971, when the ribbon to Walt Disney World was cut with a pair of gold jumbo novelty scissors, purchased that morning from Thompsons Tools by Disney himself. It's a testament to the deep roots that Thompsons Tools has in this community, and to the fact that we are never, ever going away.
At this time, we would like to address the fact that no member of the Thompsons family was aware of the rumors of Walt's anti-semitism when we sold him those scissors. Our bad.
Nor were we aware that the hammer we sold to a judge in a hurry in 1963 would be used as a makeshift gavel in the speedy trial/wrongful conviction of an African-American schoolteacher. We are very sorry.
Nor were we aware of George Zimmerman's true character when we employed him in 2010. Big oof.
We assure you, we are not, as the Sentinel suggested, “the Ellis Island for Orlando hate crime.” We also condemn that analogy, because it implies that immigrants are hate crimes. Despite our involvement with Orlando's most hated personalities, we're just a family-owned, pro-immigrant business trying to share our love of tools with the world.
So you can imagine our sadness when, after maintaining this domain since 2003, we were served with a lawsuit from a wealthy octogenarian, we were no longer able to scrounge up payment for legal fees, and we were forced to split the website 50/50.
Friends, this is an injustice of Casey Anthonian proportions. We implore you to support us in this trying time, while we explore what options we have. In the meantime, we have tried to keep the website as functional as ever. Keep up with us on our blog, and send us any inquiries through our contact page.
Sincerely,
Doug Thompsons
